Jörg Stähli
Statement
Jörg Stähli, an outstanding artist, first came to prominence as the winner of the “Diamond International Award 1971” for his jewelry creation showing a diamond-studded dove on a lapis lazuli background.
As an independent goldsmith in Bern, Jörg Stähli set up his studio “Zur Schönburg”. A place where his art has found a home.
However, his love of painting really sparked in Iseltwald, where he was able to rent a large studio space in an old hotel. The view over the lake, with the Rothorn in the background, is the motif for his first, incomparable, large-format panoramic paintings. Painted “alla prima” with brush and palette knife in a single pass, they are reminiscent of the great tradition of Swiss landscape painting.
Jörg Stähli’s fascination with mountain landscapes, flowers and simply everything beautiful is the source of his resourceful and enterprising artistry.
Bio
His artistic journey began as a goldsmith and was significantly influenced by Master Louis Conn, a gifted sculptor at the School of Design in Zurich, who taught him modeling. Despite a tempting offer from Paris to work with the painter Georges Braque (who was designing a jewelry line for Haeger de Loewenfeld in Paris at the time), he decided to stay in Zurich, where he was able to work for the renowned artist Max Bill, among others.
Stations that shaped his life include Brienz, the place of his ancestors, where Christiana and Jörg founded a family and were able to set up their first business in his grandparents’ house.
