Marlies Achermann
Statement
My images are an invitation to transcend the boundaries of reality and immerse oneself in the world of imagination. They are journeys into the unknown – journeys that spark the imagination and allow the seemingly impossible to become possible.
It is my passion to give meaning to things and to explore their full potential – even when they exist only in my mind. Within this field of tension between reality and imagination, a space emerges in which new perspectives become visible.
Bio
Education at the School of Design Zurich (SfGZ, now ZHdK).
Since 2003, Marlies Achermann has been working as an independent artist with her own studio in Bonstetten, Switzerland.
Her practice increasingly focuses on painterly mixed media, often on glass, as well as drawing and watercolor on paper and natural materials. In 2022, she participated in “365 Circles” at Heimspiel at Kunsthalle Appenzell. Viewed as a whole, her watercolors unfold a kaleidoscopic effect – a mirror in which we can recognize ourselves. In doing so, the many facets that make individual existence shimmer and remain fluid come to light.
She has received awards in international juried exhibitions for her small-format works.
Marlies Achermann lives and works with her husband in Bonstetten, where her studio is also located.
She is a member of IG Archiv Ostschweizer Kunstschaffen and the Cultural Commission of Bonstetten. She also organizes the Open Studios in the municipalities of Bonstetten, Wettswil, and Stallikon and curated the exhibition “kunstWaldkunst 2024.”
